Inspiration for this painting came from seeing a tulip growing outside of my studio that I had been looking forward to watching bloom. Its life was cut short while the grass was being cut, and I walked outside to find it fallen over. Seeing it made me think about how we are always told that life can change or end quickly, yet never fully believe it until we are faced with it ourselves.
I had been expecting to continue watching it grow and see how its form and colors would change over time. Instead, that observation ended unexpectedly. Even though it was just a flower, I kept thinking about how quickly something can shift from possibility and anticipation into memory.
