These tulips never reached the later stages of their lives. A storm came through before they had the chance. Their stems are still standing, but each flower has lost nearly all of its petals, leaving only one behind. The falling petals mark the moment everything changed, showing how quickly a life can take an unexpected turn. Painting them made me think about how, just like these flowers, people’s lives can be cut short without warning. We never know how much time we have, which makes every stage of life so precious.
