This painting grew out of thinking about how age becomes visible. The central calla lily shows clear signs of aging through the browning and crinkling along its petal, while the others retain smoother surtaces and more detined torms. That contrast became the focus of the piece.
As I worked, I started thinking about the flowers almost as members of the same family. They share the same structure and characteristics, but each exists at a different stage of life. A grandparent, a parent, and children can all stand together and look noticeably different because of age, while still resembling one another. I became interested in that balance between change and in how visible signs of aging can alter appearance without erasing the connections that remain.
