One of the reasons I am so drawn to tulips is that they never seem completely still. Even after they have fully wilted, they continue to twist, curl, and move in unexpected directions. Some of the most dramatic changes in their form happen long after they have passed what most people would consider their prime.
I wanted this painting to focus on that movement. Even though this tulip is fully wilted, it still feels full of energy. Its petals continue to fold and turn, creating new shapes and relationships. I often think about flowers as mirrors of the human experience, and this tulip reminded me that change does not stop once we reach a certain stage of life. We continue to grow, shift, and transform for as long as we are here.
