While working on this painting, I was contemplating how we often separate different stages of life, even though they never can be separated. The petals moving from one flower towards the other became a reminder that time is always moving forward.
The older sunflower is not just an ending, just as the younger one is not just a beginning. They are connected by the same life, simply existing at different moments within it. Through this painting, I wanted to discuss the way we view aging in both flowers and people, and how beauty continues to exist even as color, form, and our understanding of one another change.
